LEWGOOD HELPS GFWC & CCI WOUNDED VETERANS INITIATIVE

ATLANTA, GA – BlueKey President and US Veteran, David Lewgood, was recognized for his charitable donation to Canine Companions For Independence (CCI).  His donation directly benefits a program to enhance the lives of wounded veterans and people with disabilities that lead to greater independence and confidence by uniting them with highly trained assistance dogs.

Lewgood first learned of the initiative from his mother, Sharon Lewgood, an active member of The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).  GFWC is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.  For the past years, GFWC has partnered with CCI to maximize support for their important non-profit and powerful volunteer work.

CCI trains four types of assistance dogs bred from Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers: task dogs to assist adults with physical disabilities by performing daily tasks, hearing dogs to alert their partners who are deaf and hard of hearing to important sounds,  facility dogs to work with clients

with special needs in a visitation, education, criminal justice or health care setting, and skilled dogs to enhance independence for children and adults with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities.

"Together with your mother’s donation (Sharon Lewgood) and the money raised by GFWC Belpre Woman’s Club’s Halloween Canine Costume Contest," writes Beatrice K. Corra, CCI Canine Costume Contest Chairman, to Lewgood, "our money will help link a disabled veteran with the perfect service dog, free of charge."
